Duel-threat QB has Bobcats at the top

There still isn't anything concrete on whether the Bobcats will be taking 1 or 2 QB's this cycle. One thing is for sure, this East Texas Dual Threat Quarterback really likes Texas State and he could make a decision by the end of July.

Just last week Silsbee Offensive Lineman Kannon Mackey committed to Coach Franchione. Teammate and quarterback Patrick Reed also has a Texas State offer and is seriously considering the 'Cats.

"I talk with Texas State on a daily basis," Reed said. "We talk about my workouts and how everything is going."

In preparation for his senior year, he's playing 7-on-7 competitions. He also has a grueling lifting and running regiment that he's been doing since school let out earlier this month.

"I lift and run at 8am," Reed said. "Then I go back and lift at 2pm. I go back, lift and run at 5pm. I do that Monday through Friday and take the weekends off."

The 6'3" 190-pound signal caller's 4.55 40 time is the reason that Reed is considered a dual threat.

His other two offers are from New Mexico and Lamar. Louisiana Lafayette and La. Tech are also showing interest. The Bulldogs already have 1 QB commitment so Reed doesn't know just how serious the La. Tech staff is in possibly offering.

What Reed does know, is that he and his high school teammates report back to campus on August 4th for the dreaded two-a-days. He wants to have a decision before then and has intentions of making the call by the end of July. At the moment, two schools are standing out.

"Texas State and Louisiana Lafayette are definitely my favorites at the moment," Reed said. "I've seen (Texas State's) quarterbacks and I have a good chance at coming in and getting some early playing time."

With teammate Kannon Mackey now a Bobcat, Reed did say that he jokes with him to join him in San Marcos.

"He's trying to let me do my own thing," Reed said. "He's just having fun. I'm glad he committed and is getting away from it."
