Plenty of interest in corner

Plenty of interest in corner

Sometimes a nose for the football is all a player needs to be good. Oh and speed, speed is a plus too.

Sean Hoeferkamp, cornerback, is doing everything he can to impress coaches around the country in hopes he lands an offer. He has interest from Memphis, UTEP, Rice and Texas State.

"If offered, it would mean something," Hoeferkamp said. "If (Texas State) was to be the first offer, that would be pretty big. The first school to give you a chance, you have to respect no matter what. (Texas State's) close to home, I would have to consider it."

What impresses about Westwood's top defender is his ability to make plays and to make them quickly. Reading plays and reacting in time, no matter what situation, seems to be the norm for Hoeferkamp.

If offered by Texas State, he would be looked at to play safety in the Bobcats 4-2-5 defensive scheme. Hoeferkamp had 3 interceptions, 2 blocked kicks, 2 forced fumbles and 53 tackles last season, earning him All-District Defensive Back in 16-5A.

"I don't take a play off," Hoeferkamp said. "I go hard every play. I can chase people down, I go in, I don't back down. My game revolves around my athleticism. I have the instinct, I have a nose for the ball."

Hoeferkamp runs a 4.57 40 time and will be visiting Texas State July 19 when he attends the teams mini camp. He also was at the Bobcats' junior day this past February.
