Pierre (PJ) Anderson of SA Taft HS, was one of Texas State
's first verbal commits for the 2014 class and he's now wrapped up his senior season after playing for the West Squad in Saturday's All Star game.
The players only had one week of practice together and some not even that with basketball already in full swing. Practice consisted of 2 hours each day leading up to the game so there wasn't much time to get acquainted with everyone and get too detailed with the playbook.
Anderson made the best of his experience and hauled in an impressive touchdown over a DB as he tried to help his West Squad battle back.
"It was a fun experience. It was different than a high school game, everybody is a little bit better. I was just trying to be the best out there."
The East would triumph 53-35, but Anderson did show how he hopes to use his size and pass catching ability at the next level for the Bobcats.
"It was a fade route, the QB bobbled the ball, I waved my hands up when i got the end zone and he let it rip. The DB jumped a little too early and I made the catch over him," said Anderson.
Unofficially he finished with 3 catches, for 35 yards and his 1 score in the game. On the season, PJ and his Taft Raiders had a very tough year finishing 2-8. That still didn't stop him from nabbing 46 catches for 547 yards and 5 TD's. Good enough to earn him 1st Team All District 27-5A.
Anderson knows that the Bobcat staff is doing what they can to add at least one more wide-out this class. He talks with the staff a few times a month and gets steady correspondence from them. The Coaching Staff has not shied away from telling him that he will have the chance to earn significant PT this fall and as a result he's doing everything to get to campus as quickly as possible.
"I'll be enrolling the week of June 2nd. They told me that i could start once I get there, so I want to get there as early as possible and be ready, said Anderson.
PJ was the only Texas State commit to play in the San Antonio Area All Star Game.
