Bobcats Lose To Mavs

Bobcats Lose To Mavs

Both teams struggled to find any offensive rhythm on Saturday afternoon at Strahan Coliseum, but UTA was led by 3 players in double figures to pull out the 56-48 victory.

UTA used the backcourt trio of Reger Dowell, Jamel Outler, and Lonnie McClanahan for enough offense, 39 points between them, and enough defensive stops to preserve the "W."

Down the stretch and mostly the entire game, Texas State struggled to find the hoop, matching their 24 point output of the 1st half in the 2nd half.

In a surprise performance, senior post Gordon Ball came off the bench to lead Texas State with 10 points and 7 rebounds. He was the only Bobcat to hit double figures. Senior forward Joel Wright, played sparingly in the 2nd half, there was no confirmation as to why, it wasn't foul trouble, and he finished with 7 points.

At the break, Texas State surged ahead for a 2 point lead, 24-22, on the strength of back to back trey's from Reid Koenen and Phil Hawkins. For the game, TXST went 5 of 20 from 3-point land. UTA out rebounded the 'Cats 36-30 and scored 21 points off of Texas State's 14 turnovers.

Both teams had cold spells in the 1st half. Each squad shot just under 32%. Turnovers and missed shots led to both teams not getting an offensive feel heading to the break. It continued into the second half as the Bobcat offense never found overdrive and spoiled a stout defensive performance where the Mavs were held to only 39% for the game.

The Bobcats return to action against Arkansas Little-Rock for a Thursday night match-up from Little Rock. Tip is set at 7 p.m. On the season Texas State falls to 5-13 and 1-4 in Sun Belt play.
