Fast Rising Corner

This DB has picked up eight offers in nearly 4 weeks and the Bobcats have now joined the party. He was on campus Saturday evening and we've got the exclusive scoop on how Texas State impressed him.

Arguably, in the Lone Star State no one has been a hotter prospect in terms of getting offers than Jaylon Lane. The 6'1" 185lb cornerback from Nacogdoches HS doesn't really know why it took his recruiting a little while to get going, but now it's at a rapid fire pace and Texas State wants him.

Defensive Coordinator John Thompson let him know after his unofficial visit that he was needed and gave Lane his first in person offer of the entire recruiting process.

"It felt great. Knowing I could be one of the top prospects in the Sun Belt, I could go in there and compete for some major playing time as a freshman. I spoke with Coach Thompson and he told me they needed me," said Lane.

Earlier in the day, UT hosted Lane, but he came away from the 40 acres without an offer. Before he arrived in Central Texas he had let the Texas State Coaching Staff know and they worked out where he could stop by after his UT visit and Lane was glad that he did.

"They showed me around the locker room, press box, and the facilities. It was a great visit. I liked the way my day ended with an offer," said Lane.

The Coaches have known about Lane since his freshman year when he started at Safety for San Angelo Central, but this was his first time talking to them and new Defensive Coordinator John Thompson really left a mark.

"The Coaching staff, was really real. I really like the new DC Coach Thompson. His family who he hadn't seen in three weeks was coming in from Arkansas and he still wanted to meet with me. That said a lot to me about how bad they need me," said Lane.

Just a few days ago, Lane was committed to Ole Miss, but after re-evaluating his options and really coming to the decision that he wants to stay in state and close to home, he parted ways with the Rebels and is no longer considering them.

His other offers consist of: Boise State, Washington State, Houston, La. Tech, Oklahoma State, and South Alabama.

The Bobcats certainly have their work cut out for them, but they are a serious player in Lane's recruitment. The staff made a great impression, let him know he can compete for playing time early in a competitive conference, it's not too far from home and it's only the second in state school to offer.

With plenty of options, Jaylon believes he might end up committing before his senior year, but if he hasn't by then, he won't rush to commit for the sake of committing again. He'll use his five official visits.
