Spring Practice 4.8.14

Spring Practice 4.8.14

Following the scrimmage Saurday, the Bobcats where back to work on Tuesday afternoon, harping fundamentals and looking to improve the consistency of the offense. Certain players have emerged as leaders and are beginning to take charge and get done what they can to improve their respective sides of the ball.

The Offense and Defense are on a teeter-totter this spring. The defense dominated Saturday at the scrimmage, but the Offense came back with a vengeance at practice on Tuesday. The first team was on a roll in all aspects, breaking several long scoring plays in drills today.

There where a couple of stars of the day, the fist being Senior Ben Ijah, he was late to practice due to class, but boy was he ready to go once he arrived. He made a plethora of nice grabs, including one beautiful diving catch for a fifteen yard gain, and one insatiable snag from an essential hail-Mary in a two minute drill in the midst of three defenders.

"This off season I've been trying to be a more of a leader on and off, and in every aspect that i can," said Ijah after practice. "I love to go over the middle, ill take my size up against any linebacker and i have to give a lot of credit to our strength and conditioning staff, they get our strength to way beyond what it was when we got here."

Rob Lowe also had a superb outing, breaking two big 40 yard runs to the house from inside hand-offs on back to back reps and also broke another on another carry to the outside. Lowe is expected to have another great season, but this was by far his most dominating practice.

"Ben Ijah has had thirteen really good practices, he is probably one of our most consistent players and i still am really liking what I have in my running backs," said Coach Franchionne "Although in our scrimmages we have been about 50/50 on pass versus run, i still don't think that I will go away from our running first style from last year, I just know what i have in my running backs and need to figure out a few more variables in our passing game."

The Bobcats offense will surely be an improvement from last year with so many returning starters, and looks as though it will be a versatile one with the ability to hurt you in many different ways. The friction between the offense and the defense seems to be making fire as both show signs of real ability and potential. This looks like it will be a much better team than the already good team from last year.

The spring and gold game will be drafted tomorrow, at 3:15 p.m., by the players. It will obviously be a mix between first and second teams and will hopefully showcase a lot more players we may have overlooked so far this spring. The tension is already building along with the competition level, on top of what has already been great in just about every outing thus far. One thing is for sure, the maroon and gold game will be very exciting, especially if you already cant wait for the fall like most of BobcatNation.
