Scorching the Nets

When you're shooting lights out, can play multiple spots, and have a 6'3" frame to go with it, you're going to draw attention and that's exactly what this shooting guard is doing.

With the AAU circuit in full stride, Tony Allen of The D1Ambassadors (Judson HS) is as hot as the South/Central Texas heat. He recently visited the Texas State campus, two Thursday's ago, and continued his stellar play at the Austin GASO where we caught up with him.

"It's going good. I just gotta continue to work, get in the gym and continue to get those shots up. That's why I've been shooting so good," said Allen.

He's another Alamo City area prospect that has landed on the Texas State radar and the interest is mutual for Allen. He was on campus recently and was impressed.

"I liked Texas State a lot. The atmosphere and the players, I really like them. I like Coach Kaspar, I think it's a good fit."

New Hampshire University, who signed Allen's former Judson teammate, Tanner Leissner last class, is offer number one. Virginia Commonwealth University, Creighton, Citadel and Nebraska have all either reached out or shown interest.

Tony just isn't a jump shooter and his ability to play both guard spots is a draw to colleges. He has good handles and shows it as he's one of his AAU teams primary ball handlers. He can get into the lane and finish, using his 6'3" 180lb frame. He's not a pure point by any means, but can be effective at the position.

Allen is looking for a program that will present the opportunity to earn playing time, but also a university that holds it's own academically. It'll be up to him to sift through his options and find the right mix.

With his deadly accuracy and the live period approaching quickly in July, Allen could see his stock rise rather quickly. Some programs may want to get a glimpse in person and are waiting for that before offering. If Texas State were to extend, Coach Kaspar and his staff could potentially get some good news from the sharp shooting guard.

"I would seriously consider it. It's (Texas State) on the way up. Coach Kaspar is always winning and it's close to home."
