TXST Camp Recap

TXST Camp Recap

Friday's mini-camp had a very nice turnout of over 300+ kid at Bobcat Stadium. Out of the big showing there were a handful that turned heads and are now on the recruiting radar.

With the sheer numbers, this doesn't account for every camper in attendance, but for one reason or another these prospects stood out to our staff.

Reggie Daniels 6'2" 175lb WR (Hendrickson HS)

Good overall skills to go along with his nice frame. Was one of four WR's who were separated from the group to catch routes from QB Commit L.G. Williams. They were consistently on the same page. Good route running, clean breaks and we did not see him drop a single ball. Is an offer candidate.

Michael Akai 5'10" 165lbs WR (Judson HS)
Showed great hands, good ability to adjust to the ball and catch it away from his body. Has speed, posting a 4.5. Was another one of the four wide-outs who got a closer look from CO-OC Mike Schultz.

Luke Huffer 5'11" 175lbs DB (Burton HS)
Started the morning by setting the bar for the vertical with a 38" leap. He then followed it up with a 4.5 40 yard dash. In drills with the DB's he continued to show quickness and good hips. In 1 on 1's his instincts had him in good position to make plays.

Tommy Martin 5'10" 165lbs DB (Flour Bluff HS)
Continued his impressive camp week. He followed up his 4.31 at UTSA's camp on Thursday by running a 4.35 two times at Texas State. As he was timed, one coach yelled, "Wow!" Another did a double take. He did it all in front of Coach Fran. He worked with the DB's, a position he's still learning, but is super athletic, long and showed that speed when closing during 1 on 1's.

Tyler Gay 6'0" 195lbs OLB (Chavez HS)
A lean looking OLB prospect who turned heads with a 4.5. He fit's the mold of hybrid Safety/LB and has speed and athleticism to play both. He showed good footwork and scraping speed when working with the LB's.

Deondre Williams 5'9.5" 176lbs DB (Lindale HS)
Smaller DB, but he can fly. Posting one of the fastest times at camp with a 4.4. Is quick on his feet and reacts instantly when in coverage. It leads him to making plays on the ball and despite his height, he does not back down and gets physical.

Jairdan Walker-Chambers 6'2" 175lbs WR (SA Reagan HS)
Good looking WR prospect who passed the eye ball test. Has yet to play a down at Reagan as he and his family are new to the area from D.C. Displayed good hands, crisp routes and nice wheels. Another WR prospect to circle. He's completely under the radar after relocating to Texas. Was one of four WR's who got 1 one 1 time with Coach Schultz and QB Commit L.G. Williams.

Trey Robinson 5'9" 165lbs DB (Chandler HS, AZ)
The son of UT Running Back's Coach Tommie Robinson, made the trip in from Arizona. Don't knock his size, like Deondre Williams, played very physical. Was constantly seen pressing. He showed good ball skills and the ability to stick on receivers down the field.

Anthony Johnson 6'0" 193lb DB (Steele HS)
Excelled at 1 on 1's, drew the praise of the staff as he registered a couple of passes defended with good ball awareness. With good D1 size for a DB, he also posted a 4.5 flat to go with it. Has two offers from Sam Houston State & Liberty. Has only been at Steele for one year after transferring in from the state of Arizona.
