Visit Went Well

In a group of targets that visited Texas State last Friday, this Defensive End target from Denton Guyer enjoyed it and recaps his time in San Marcos with our staff.

Derek Watson was another Denton Guyer target who visited San Marcos recently. The 6'4" 220lb D-End came onto the Texas State recruiting radar earlier this spring and decided to come on down for a visit.

"I got there around 12:30pm-1pm. We toured the campus, facilities, and weight room. I really enjoyed the visit, it's a beautiful campus and beautiful town."

Watson currently has a total of seven offers: Texas State, Nevada, Connecticut, North Texas, Louisiana Monroe, New Mexico, and Air Force. Oklahoma has had a lot of contact recently and is sending plenty of mail. So too is Kansas State, but neither Big XII program has offered yet.

It's been a few months, but when Derek attended the Bobcats' satellite camp at Lake Dallas High School, he caught the eye of the staff and an offer soon followed.

"Really, it just kind of started out of nowhere. They came out to a practice, they said they really liked me, they started corresponding and they offered me," said Watson.

DFW area recruiter is O-line Coach Brad Bedell and he's taken the lead on Watson. At 6'4" 220lbs, he's being recruited by Texas State as a D-End. He also reports 4.6 speed off the edge, so his quickness, speed and size make him a very intriguing prospect.

With the season less than a month away for Watson, he's focusing on the new year and leaving last year's State Championship in the rear view mirror. It's time to focus on the now and possibly repeat with a jump up into the 6A classification. For the time being he'll focus on his senior year and is planning on a decision later on towards the middle or end of the season.

Plan on Watson taking some official visits to help with the decision making and he's not ruling out using an official for Texas Schools either. It's still way too early to tell if the Bobcats will get one, but the program did make a good impression on the D-End.

"I definitely liked the feel of the campus and the way the community feels. I also liked the facilities and the locker room."
