'Bama D-lineman Wants Visit

The staff is really hard on this out of state D-lineman and he's eager to take a visit to San Marcos and start making progress on his decision.

Malik Manciel is a 6'3 258-pound athlete out of Florence HS that has the tools to play every position on the defensive line. Coach Kyle Tatum has really been hot on Manciel's trail and is doing everything he can to lure him to Texas State.

"Coach Tatum and I have a great relationship, he's my man. Coach Tatum will either call me or talk to me on Twitter at least three times a week," said Manciel. "Coach Tatum came all the way out to Florence to see me when he extended the offer."

Manciel's high school D-line coach and Coach Tatum went to high school together in Alabama and maintain a good relationship. There is no specific date set for a visit to Texas State, however Malik says he definitely wants to make it down before he makes a decision after next season.

"I have not had the chance to go on any visits this summer, because I have just been focusing really hard on my summer workouts and winning a State Championship next season," said Manciel. "Texas State is definitely one of the schools I will be making a visit to before I make a decision, they are recruiting me harder than anyone else."

Manciel now holds offers from eight schools, Arkansas State, Alabama Birmingham, Western Kentucky, Louisiana Lafayette, Southern Mississippi, Texas State, Tennessee Tech, and Georgia Southern. There is a lot these schools will have to prove to Manciel and his family, he told BI what his criteria would be.

"I want to make sure I go somewhere where I will be appreciated and looked after, that has good academics and the proper tools to help me succeed in the class room. A school with a nice environment, and where my mother feels comfortable, the last thing i want is for her to worry about me while I am off at school," said Manciel.

Malik's mother is originally from the FT Worth area and is not opposed to him making the move to Texas. The pieces all seem to be in place, however there is still a long road until his is over, a lot can happen between now and the end of this coming season.
