The Bobcats were back at it Wednesday evening. Here's the practice write up with the latest news and notes.

DAY 3 – August 6, 2014
· Wednesday night was the first night in shoulder pads for the Bobcats which meant the team had its first "Bobcat Drill". The drill is the old Oklahoma Drill in which an offensive lineman and defensive lineman go 1-on-1 as a running back tries to get into the endzone. The offense won the vast majority of the drills in the first session. Both sides were into it as there was cheering after nearly every repetition.
· Following the Bobcat Drill there was the Middle Drill in which it's five offensive linemen and a tight end against the front seven of the defense, again with the running back trying to get to space. The offense started strong, with huge holes being opened before the defense started to neutralize the advantage halfway through. The defense then carried that momentum over into the team drill later in the night as Michael Odiari led the group in getting numerous would-be sacks against the offense.
· One offensive player that shined on Wednesday and earned a bit of a promotion at least for the time being was redshirt freshman Demun Mercer. Mercer made a few acrobatic catches in the pass skeleton and carried it over into 7-on-7 drills. Later when the two sides went to 11-on-11, Mercer was getting a few reps with the first string, alongside Brandon Smith, C.J. Best and Ben Ijah. For fans thinking Mercer may have changed to tight end, he actually switched his number to No. 10. Last year he wore No. 81 which is being touted by freshman tight end Cameron Knight.
The team returns to practice at 6:15 p.m., on Thursday night at the Bobcat practice field. The schedule for the next week is as follows:
Thursday, Aug. 7 – 6:15 p.m. – Helmets and shoulder pads
Friday, Aug. 8 – 9:00 a.m. – Full pads
Saturday Aug. 9 – 8:15 a.m./6:30 p.m. – Full pads
Sunday Aug. 10 – 1:00 p.m. – Texas State photo/media day
Monday Aug. 11 – 8:15 a.m./6:30 p.m. – Full pads
